This is a well built shovel from a bygone era. There is an inconspicuous crack in the shovel mounting end of the handle as shown in pictures.

The rings were left exposed. A rope was fed through the ring and then through the ring of another log to build a raft to float the logs down river to the mill. They were also used so that mules could pull these big logs through the marsh to the river.

This 1645 early 17th century forged iron cheese scale from the Netherlands?. It was used to weigh the large cheese rounds and Witches yes Witches. Pictures do not do it justice, This scale is very large and detailed it is apx 87″ wide and 60″ high apx 90″ wide when folded down.
