Orig. Ca. 1870’s Salesman’s Sample Patent Saw Tooth – Pat. 1871 – mjdtoolparts

A most interesting and unusual SALESMAN’S SAMPLE PATENT SAW TOOTH INSERT by Emerson, Smith & Company, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. This sample, which would have been produced for distribution to potential buyers at trade shows or other venues, has a single hardened tooth inset in a 5 1/2″ square piece of saw plate. The patent feature allows the wedge that secures the inserted tooth to be loosened by sliding it over to place a new hardened tooth in the opening created. The wedge is then driven back to lock the new tooth in place. The sample is marked on each side with the company name and the date of the April 25, 1871 U.S. Patent of James E. Emerson, then of Newark, New Jersey. It is in top collector quality condition. Length = 5.75 Inches (Ref. Id No.: 434255) [Free Shipping]
