Disston & Sons 1896-1917 Straightback 26 inch Saw

All original Disston & Sons 1896-1917 straight back 26 inch saw. (Looks like something spilled on medallion–easily removed?)–new owner can decide. Applewood (?) handle with, I think, original wood coverage of which some has over decades “flaked off”.. Cool saw, nice appearance. (Please note there has been no “cleaning”, etc.–this has been in the workshop of a 97 year old carpenter on a rack for decades. Note a couple “dark” spots on the blade–I think that is probably from oil on fingers when saw moved.) Nice straight, not bent, blade. Neat saw.

Disston & Sons Last of the Brass nuts – D23 10 point Fine Cross Cut 26 inch Plate sizeLate 1920s 1930 era The D23 Combines all the great features in the earlier numbered saws and later Ds. The D23 started off with brass hardware and would switch to steel, this ones is from brass hardware years. The straight and smooth plate retains a nice shine with some marks and a few spots. The plate has a light readable, double factory etch. The handle is as found with a few marks and chips but over all very sold with no repairs made or needed. The finish shows some age but it’s tight to the plate, The 10 point fine cross cut make perfect all around, one size does all cross cut for the modern woodworker. Yes if you plain to cut railroad ties, its not the right saw! however for around 1″ and woods for cabinetry or carpentry this will do it, and do it well. The saw is freshly sharped with sloped gullets to aid in smooth cuts. The saw has been tested and ready to use out of the box and makes quick work of tricky cuts. Have a look at the photos and details below. Let me know if you have any questions. Due to USPS increased rates. I am now offering UPS and FedEx. I still offer USPS please look at the different shipping options as prices to vary depending where you live. Now on instagram! @ secondchancesawworks have a look of what’s on the bench. ABOUT THE SAW HANDLE: Nice example of a late model D23 handle in “as found” condition. The lacquer finish used on these modules has great adhesion but with age comes apologies seen in pics. The handle has not been sanded or refinished. See pictures for details. Some chips and scratches but over all very sold no repairs made or needed, full horns. The hardware is in good shape and tight to the plate. PLATE: Straight and clean with a few stains, see pictures for details. The factory double D23 etch is clear and readable. I take great care in my sharpening process and don’t simply sharpen and list. After the saw is sharpened I test cut then tune as needed for best use. The 10 point cross cut was sharpened with sloped gullets. This aids in smooth cuts and helps reduce sawdust buildup in the kerf. The 10 point pitch is great for most woods, and common jobs in the shop requiring cross cuts. All of my saws are ready to use out of the box. Please excuse any dust in the pictures the saw will be wiped down before it’s mailed. After looking over pics let me know if you have any questions. WHY BUY FROM ME The goal with every saw I offer is to bring back the beauty in direct proportion to its overall condition. Each one is checked before it’s sharpened and tested then tuned as needed. It’s true I do this for profit but I’ve got a passion for saws that anyone who’s talked with me know. I stand behind what I sell! It’s as simple as that. If you’re not happy contact me and I will refund or work it out. I don’t tend to sell at auction rather I sell a top quality saw at a fare price. It’s what I demand, and what you should as well. My description don’t spend time saying I’m the BEST or have a god like ability with a file, I don’t trash other seller rather I try and to stick to the topic at hand— some history, details, and a few jokes. I’m very good at what I do because I’ve learned from others and practice a lot. I have love for what I do and I think if you take the time to read my blog or follow me on social media it come through. That passion I feel tips the scales in my favor and I hope gets you to try one of my saws. Rest assured if it doesn’t go to your liking with mine or another sellers saw I’m here to make it good. I offer restoration and sharpening services. Please contact me or look me up on the web. If you like to read more about my process and all things saws please read my blog positiverake or find me on Facebook NOT SO FINE PRINT Please carefully review the pictures, I have done my best to describe things as I see them. ALWAYS feel free to email with any questions and I will do my best to answer them. I make every effort to ship next day after payment M-F. I now use the ebay calculator that allows local customers a better rate then a single flat rate coast to coast. I’m happy to combined shipping but please contact me BEFORE payment so I can combine I accept returns up to 14 days
. I do not charge extra for shipping but do charge $1.50 to cover the cost of the box. These older saws can damage easily and I find it’s better to use a custom box rather then recycle ones. Please take a second to look at this and other saws I offer. I put a good deal of effort into each saw and I want you, the buyer to be happy. E-mail with any issues and I will do my best to resolve them in a peaceful way.
