This is a rare find for any collector or woodworking enthusiast. The A.C. Bartletts’ 8″ Coffin Wood Plane with a 2″ cast steel blade is a true antique original from the United States. The brand is well-known for its quality and this plane is no exception. Overall, good used condition with all the expected signs of age and use. Iron is heavy, shows signs of surface rust/patina, and also some mushrooming on end. The cutting edge appears sharp and chip- and damage-free. Iron is stamped “A.C. BARTLETTS’ WARRANTED CAST-STEEL.” Wood body does show some cracks and chips. one larger crack is near top on the side by iron. Also, bottom appears to be missing an insert of some sort. A.C. BARTLETTS’ is also stamped into nose, with a line under it that I could not make out. Wedge appears solid with no chips or cracks, only staining from iron. Measures approx. 7-3/4″ L x 2-1/2″ W x 2-1/4″ H. Iron is approx. 5-3/4″ L x 2″ W. Please see photos, I try and capture the good, the bad, and the ugly with close-up images. A solid thick tapered 2-1/8″ wide plane iron. It has a very nice maker’s stamp which says A.C. Bartletts Warranted Cast Steel. It is 7.5″ long and 3/16″ thick at the bevel end. It has a nice new primary bevel done with a CBN wheel.
