You are bidding on one interesting nail or tack puller (or lifter) as pictured.It is marked “PAT NOV 19 95″ with no other markings that I can find, including none on the underside.Overall length is about 5-5/8”. There are some traces of the original nickel finish, most easily seen on the sides of the handle right below the rivets. That turns out to be patent 549,895, awarded to William G Browne of Meriden, Connecticut, and assigned to Browne & Dodd Manufacturing Company also of Meriden. I don’t know if Browne & Dodd actually made these, and Browne & Dodd are not listed in the EAIA Directory. Condition is good, with quite a bit of light rust on both the outside and the inside. The large hole is original as it was cast into the handle. The two rivets seem quite tight. And if you have made an error, and bought the wrong size, for example, I will still take care of you (but I’ll let you pay the return shipping!).USPS POSTAGE RATE INCREASES: I use the Post Office for everything, and yes, the shipping charges just keep going up and up. The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which means early October to late January. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it’s not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20″ long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30″ long, because those longer packages won’t fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights. I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, eBay requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including eBay. If I ship to a state where eBay is required to collect sales tax, eBay will charge you the sales tax for your location. There is lots of information available from eBay that explains it in much more detail. The sales tax is completely out of my hands — I don’t have anything to do with deciding whether to charge tax, I don’t have anything to do with deciding the tax rate, and I never see any of the funds that are collected, they go directly to eBay.SELLING OUTSIDE OF EBAY: Why would I risk my lengthy good standing with eBay to save you a couple of dollars? Especially when you ask on an email that is sent through the eBay email system? Please don’t ask, the answer is no.INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: I no longer ship Internationally other than Canada. If you are in Canada, ask for what the shipping would cost, but be prepared for it to be $$$$$. AUCTIONS: I won’t end an auction listing early to sell it to you directly. As a bidder, I really dislike going back at the end of an auction to bid, only to discover that the seller had ended the auction early. So I won’t do that for you, or to you.PACKAGING: Please check my feedback — I package well.
