I rate this ruler inGOOD CONDITION overall. Most of the numbers and markings are clear and easy to read. There is a round oval shaped stain on the back side. The brass caliper works great.

Chapin-Stephens ship carpenter’s No 42 boxwood & brass bevel & rule 2 blades
Condition is excellent, and despite being roughly 100 years old, it could almost pass for new. The boxwood has great color. The wood has a few scratches, the arch shaped trim pieces have a bit of tarnish or darkening, and the blades have a variety of scratches from opening and closing them.

Number 036. For the most part it is in very good condition. The bubble does work. The wood looks very good. It has the pin which is usually missing. Other wise It is in very good condition in my opinion.
