Antique Iron Chariot Plane

These small chariot style wood planes are relatively rare, having originated in the United Kingdom. This one is in good condition with the expected nicks and scratches due to age, use and wear. In the photos,you can see a small chip on the sole plate.

Preston (?). “BULL NOSE” Chariot Plane. It looks to be Steel and professionally made but not marked. I am not an expert on Chariot planes but this one is typical I think. The body is not marked but the cutter is as shown.

Bronze casting to hold down wedge Norris-type English wood fill plane 1 3/8″

Bronze casting to hold wedge to fit a plane on the lines of the English wood-filled planes made by Norris in the 1800s. The casting is 1 1/4″ wide to fit small plane, these were used in building the chariot plane. There are 16 available. As you can see there is a chip to the mouth and a crack near the mouth. The total length of the shoe is 3 in and 3/8 or 8.4 centimeters where the diameter of the shoe at 1.5 inches or 3.7 centimeters. The iron has a total diameter of an inch and an eighth or 2.9 cm.

A little project for you to get your welder out. This chariot plane has a little crack coming off the mouth and a cup of chips full stop the total length of the shoe is just over five inches or 12.8 centimeters with the diameter of just under two inches and an eighth or 5.3 centimeters.
