Philadelphia Disston 26″ Crosscut Saw, Sharpened, Set, Tuned, Ready for work
It’s a 5tpi / 6ppi toothline, I’ve given it a tooth pattern best suited to fast cutting in hardwoods. Large teeth, Slightly relaxed rake angle and about 15 degrees of fleam. The coarse tooth pattern gives large gullets which can carry more sawdust out of the cut, the typical crosscut rake angle provides a smooth action without grabbing the fibres and a lower fleam angle than a full blown crosscut gives a stouter tooth with less of a knife point, this allows it to be hard wearing yet still function as a crosscut and minimises tearout.

The plate is dead straight, no kinks or bows. The toothline has been jointed flat, the teeth hand shaped, set and filed to a crosscut pattern with approx 10 degrees of rake and 20 degrees of fleam. This is one of the final generation of genuine Philadelphia Disston saws.

Simonds No 10½ 18″ 9TPI Crosscut Hand Saw Panel Saw, Sharp, Set, Tuned
The toothline is 9tpi filed for crosscut with about 10 degrees of rake and 30 degrees of fleam, the teeth have minimal set and have been stoned back to further reduce kerf and improve cut finish, See the pics for results, That’s 1″ Padauk and 2″ Spruce for reference, note the almost total absence of tear out on the softwood test piece.
