It is generally accepted that Proto tools marked with “Los Angeles” were produced between 1949 and 1956. Earlier Catalogs do not describe the Sockets’ Finish. In Catalogs printed after 1956, when Plomb/Proto continued its evolution into becoming Pendelton Tool Industries, the finish is also described as “black oxide, with oil dip.”.
