Specifications

Woodcarving tool which I believe is called a flat gouge. It is almost entirely flat but features a very slight, gentle curve at the cutting edge. As can be seen the metal shaft is pitted but the cutting edge isn't and remains quite sharp. The hardwood handle is not split and its octagonal cross section is fully retained. The original ferrule is intact. My father used it when out of work and learning carpentry in the late1920s early 1930s. Later he used it occasionally as a hobby.
