Tool Steel for the Non-Metallurgist, originally published by Crucible Steel Company of America, New York, NY, 1950s. Reprinted by Nation Builder Books, Leesburg, VA, 2004. 5½ x 8½ softcover, 31 pages. Please note that this is a PHOTOCOPIED reproduction of the 1950s original. The accompanying images were scanned from a reprint, not the original. This is an excellent little booklet that explains the characteristics of different types of tool steels, and outlines the purposes for which each is best adapted. Characteristics of oil hardening and air hardening of tool steels and high speed steels is discussed in the second part. The third part provides suggestions for heat treating four basic types of tool steel. The last part covers the quenching and tempering of tool steels, and also briefly discusses grinding. Among the nine tables is a Hardness Conversion Table between Brinell, Rockwell, Shore, and Tensile Strength of Tool, Alloy, and Non-Corrosove Steels. This booklet will be of special interest to blacksmiths and re-toolers. Please note: no returns accepted. Sorry, but this is in reaction to eBay's new policies which really screw sellers on return shipping. I encourage you to contact eBay and complain.
