Here’s a good old Craftsman bench plane that’s looking for a new workbench. I have not cleaned it, sharpened it, adjusted it, or tested it on wood. After a careful inspection, I found no cracks in the body.

Stanley #2 Bench Plane – Circa 30’s – Beautiful Wood – Excellent Condition
My GUESS for this plane would be early 30’s. It has a tall knob and notch logo on the blade. The lever cap has the straight hole. The wood on this plane is really exceptional with only a VERY few “toolbox dings”. The japanning is nearly complete. There are some scratches on the sole which could be lapped out if desired. The frog is the older style. All things considered, this is truly an excellent example of a #2 – I have not done anything to it since it came my way. The plane has been refurbished and overall, is in very good condition with the finish on the body and frog at 100%. Rosewood rear handle and knob are in excellent condition, no cracks or checks.

The only item worth noting is the frog. I cannot say with certainty whether these are an intentional casting feature or a minor factory casting anomaly. Regardless, they donot affect the bedding of the iron or the plane’s performance in any way.
