Butcher marks. It has an early appearance and could date from the 18th century. Both the wedge and blade are old and appear to be original. There are square nails that hold the fence on to the side.

Leonard Bailey was awarded patent 185,280, on December 12, 1876 for his cutter adjuster. Bailey Victor plane irons were normally 1-3/4″ or wider, and I’m not sure what this fits. It is marked with a football shaped mark, with “L BAILEY’S” on the top arched line, “PATENT” in the middle straight line, and “DEC 12, 18.” on the bottom reverse arched line.
