Plomb Tool Company began business in 1907 in Los Angeles. The small blacksmith shop grew to become one of the industry’s most innovative tool manufacturers. Plomb tools were well integrated into the growth of automobile manufacturing and maintenance. In 1946, a contentious trademark issue was resolved, more or less, by Plomb becoming PROTO, meaning PROfessionals TOols. Sometimes Plombs high quality products become lost in all the stories regarding Plomb/Proto/etc. One of the “important” issues centers on Branding Stamping that are pre- and post- “Los Angeles”. According to “The History of PLOMB Tools, Section Six-Year of Manufacture” (https://www.vannattabros.com/plomb/plombtool.html), in late 1939 through 1941, Plomb stacked the “Made In” as two lines preceding “U S A” (see images) when Stamping tools. This website provided extensive information about Plomb and seems to be the best go-to source. We see no reason to not accept their 1939 through 1941 as time of production of the Wrench. A Wrench closely resembling our 3220 appears in “Plomb Forged Hand Tools: Catalog No. 18 A by Plomb Tool Co., 1940-08-15” (https://archive.org/details/PlombHandForgedToolsCatalogNo18A/page/n33/mode/2up). The Wrench is in fully-functional condition. There are spots of corrosion and some evidence of use (see images), but not of abuse or misuse. It could be put to work, successfully. It could be added to a Show-and-Tell Collection, too. We will ship the Tool by USPS Ground Advantage on the next regular business day following payment.
