NOTE: H-968 is my inventory # only. Here is a good vintage Brown & Sharpe No. 13 outside micrometer in its original box with the paperwork and adjusting wrench. This one is a 0-1" with a ratcheting thimble, friction lock and .0001: resolution. Works good. Some of the black paint has worn off the graduations but if your eyesight is good this is not a problem, it is common on most vintage micrometers. The friction locks only needs a very small firm turn to work fine as it should. These older mics had steel anvils and many of the old timer machinist believe you get a better "feel" with steel than the newer harder carbide tipped ones. User preference, both work fine.
