HTF Vintage ROE Dial-50 Tape MeasurePatent Applied For Fresh from a local estate sale. Made by Justus Roe and Sons of Patchogue, N.Y., this 50’ tape has 16” center markings, interesting wire hook tip and nice Phenolic castings. The 50' version of this tape measure seems to be less prevalent than the other lengths. That combined with the PAT. APP. FOR designation make this particular type Hard To Find. It was a bit dirty, so I've lightly cleaned and closely inspected it. It could be cleaned further to get the remaining dirt out of the nooks and crannies, but that will be up to the new owner if they choose to do so. It is in surprisingly good condition for its age. As collectors will know, the products marked "PAT. APP. FOR" are the first version of the product to be sold to the public. These items were often only sold for a short time before the patent number appeared instead of the patent applied for text. Many times changes are made to the product during this time, so these PAT APP FOR products tend to be rare compared to the version that gets mass produced later. There is some wear to the sharper features of the Phenolic plastic housings, like the grip features around the perimeter. There is also a cack I discovered while cleaning. It is small and hardly noticeable. It doesn't interfere with the function in any way. Please see the last 3 pictures for different views of this crack, there is just the one crack. The tape is white and bright with no wear to speak of. The wire hook tip was a bit rusty and was lightly cleaned, but could use further cleaning.
