If seller could keep all his old tools he wouldn't part with this set. There cannot be many like it out there anywhere, and it is in very good condition. Tray is marked only on the bottom with patent number 1788535. Some investigation revealed that the patent for this socket set was issued January 13, 1931, meaning the set dates from the 1930s or 1940s. Patented for Duro Metal Products Company, Chicago, IL, this small 6 socket set includes SAE sizes 1/2", 9/16", 5/8", 11/16", 3/4", and 7/8", in 12 point, together with an L-shape 1/2" hex bar handle that slips and locks into a cradle on top of the tapered metal socket tray. With the handle removed, the cradle pivots or hinges open to one side to permit access to the sockets, then pivots back to secure the sockets and hold the handle back in the tray. In sum, a clever and compact old design, and a fine American set all around. Knurled shallow sockets are 12 point; all possess good sharp and clean exteriors, faces, and drive holes. In fact, they are in remarkably excellent condition, inside and out, top and bottom. Note that the handle shows a bit more wear, either from someone having hit it with a hammer a few times or from someone using it together with a pipe. Even so, its ends are fine and its balls snap smartly. Green paint inside tray shows where the sockets have stood; paint on the tray bottom is scaly and shows to-be-expected loss. Please see all 12 photographs, as they show condition and complete the description of this socket set, handle, and combination storage/carry tray. To be shipped inexpensively by USPS ground advantage mail.
