So first and foremost I’m hoping that someone out there sho sees this special piece will have seen one previously-otherwise I’m guessing this is a pretty unique and scarce piece to have in a collection. This Starrett No. 424 sliding steel rule was modified in what looks to have been a manufactured facility for the Leschen & Sons Wire Rope Company. The stamping of Leschens company info was definitely done in a setting that appears consistent with Starretts own stamping-and I believe this would have been manufactured by Starrett for Leschen. I’ve never seen another-can it find another and have had this in my personal collection for a long time. Sadly-I don’t have much history beyond knowing it came from an estate of an elderly machinist who had all sorts of quality old machine tools that were very well kept and in good shape. I’ve done. I clean up to this piece and it works well and is accurate with regard to the reading on the rule. This is really an amazing piece-I just wish I had some history of its use during the past century.
