An ORIGINAL STAINED HARDWOOD FRONT KNOB AND REAR HANDLE for a Shapleigh Hardware Diamond Edge No. DE05 jack plane by the Shapleigh Hardware Company, St. Louis, Missouri. These handles, which have a wheat pattern carving on the sides of the rear handle, are in clean and usable condition, noting the beginning of a tight crack in the front knob. These planes were almost certainly produced for Shapleigh by the Buckeye Saw Vise Company of Cleveland, Ohio. The plane incorporates the November 22, 1904 U.S. Patent of John Muehl of Cleveland, Ohio.
