An ORIGINAL "TYPE 2" CAST IRON PLANE BODY for a Sargent No. 422 jointer plane by Sargent & Company, New Haven, Connecticut. Fully 95% of the original black japan finish remains on this early plane body, which uses a 2 3/8 inch width cutting iron. The "Type 2" planes used the early type "horseshoe lateral" frog and are disinguished from the "Type 3" planes by having cylindrical receivers for the frog screws, rather than circuclar openings buttressed with a square casting to serve as reinforcement.
