A scarce EARLY TYPE 2 1/4" WIDTH CUTTING IRON for a Stanley No. 5 1/2 plane by STANLEY. The No. 5 1/2 was the only plane to use this size cutting iron until 1939, when the width was expanded to 2 3/8" to be interchangeable with the cutter for the No. 4 1/2, 6 and 7 bench planes.
