An ORIGINAL CHIP BREAKER for a Sargent No. 410, 418 or 422 bench plane by Sargent & Company, New Haven, Connecticut. This 2 3/8 inch width chip breaker has the distinctive oval cutout that differentiates Sargent from Stanley chip breakers. The market leader, the Stanley Rule & Level Company, used specialized threads that were designed not to work with competitors planes and vice versa.
