An EARLY ARCH PATTERN TRADEMARK CUTTING IRON by STANLEY. This plane was produced for the early style No. 120, which utilized a lever adjustment mechanism. It has a series of serrated grooves on the back side and it is beveled on the upper edge. The trademark is the early "Type 1" version that includes the date of the 1876 Traut & Richards U.S. Patent which described the lever adjustment mechanism for the depth of cut.
