A FOUNDER'S GRADE CUTTING IRON AND CHIP BREAKER for a Sargent No. 410 heavy smoothing plane, No. 418 fore plane or No. 422 jointer plane by Sargent & Company, New Haven, Connecticut. This 2 3/8 inch width cutter is marked with the early Sargent "Type 2" oval logo and is in top condition. Early Sargent irons were not marked with the specifict product number and this iron and chip breaker would be appropriate for any early Sargent bench plane that uses a 2 3/8 inch width cutting iron.
